The performance of the song "Glory" from the movie "Selma" got a standing Academy Awards ovation on Sunday night and brought the Martin Luther King Jr. biopic its only Oscar win for best original song.
With a prop of Selma's Edmund Pettus Bridge in the background, R&B singer John Legend and rapper Common, who both wrote the song, performed the tune just before the winner in the category was announced.
As they performed, a choir emerged from the bridge depicting marchers,
noted the Huffington Post. "Selma," which was also nominated for a best picture Oscar, portrayed the months that led to the 1965 Selma to Montgomery Civil Rights march.
Television cameras showed "Selma" star David Oyelowo and "Star Trek" star Chris Pine crying after the "Glory" performance.
"'Glory' was a shoe-in from the start, even with competition from 'Everything Is Awesome,'"
wrote The Verge's Kwame Opam. "Tonight's performance was one we've seen a few times by now, but it's no less powerful here."
Other celebrities and fans posted their reactions to the performance on social media.
