The official "Godzilla" trailer for the highly anticipated 2014 movie was released Tuesday, and fans were more excited than ever ahead of the film's May 16 release.

"I cried man tears," wrote a commenter on the
Godzilla film's Facebook page.
"This may be the first time in maybe 20 years that I've been willing to wait in line to see a movie on opening night," someone posted on the
trailer's YouTube page.
Many fans are interested to see director Gareth Edwards' take on the iconic beast that first showed up in 1954's original "Godzilla: King of All Monsters." Edwards, wrote, directed, and created the visual effects for "Monsters," the 2010 independent science fiction film.
"It was such a shot in the arm to see your star,"
Edwards told USA Today about first seeing what his visual effects crew created as its version of Godzilla. "It was like knowing you were pregnant vs. seeing the ultrasound. I suddenly remembered I was making this iconic movie."
Other fans are waiting to see "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston in his first major movie role since his hit television show ended.
"Aside from the solid creature design, the other ace in the hole here is the
greatest actor working on television, Bryan Cranston," wrote MTV.com's Kevin P. Sullivan. "Walter White hasn't made the crossover to the silver screen that he deserves, and his role in 'Godzilla' may be enough to break away from the supporting, military man parts he's been mostly relegated to."
Other fans hoped the trailer would give them some solace that this version of "Godzilla" will be better than the 1998 reincarnation, starring Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno, which was panned by critics and underperformed at the box office.
"Since an abysmal 1998 American remake, 'Godzilla, the King of All Monsters' hasn't lived up to his title," Sullivan wrote for MTV.com. "As one of the all-time great movie creatures, the giant radioactive lizard has rested more on his reputation than any proof from modern moviemaking. But that could all change today."
The movie also stars Elizabeth Olsen (Mary-Kate and Ashley's little sister) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, of the Kick-Ass franchise. Olsen and Taylor-Johnson have also signed on to play the sister/brother combo of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in Marvel's second maxi-superhero movie "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015.
