Gold iPhone 5S Sales So Hot Apple Can't Meet World Demand (Video)

The world is in the midst of a gold iPhone famine after smartphone fanatics rushed to scoop up the shiny new devices, leaving Apple scurrying to keep up with demand.

Apple unveiled the gold-anodized, aluminum-and-glass iPhone 5S back in September along with its other 5S models and the cheaper, colorful 5C option. The gold iPhone immediately sold out in China, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, as the U.S. wait list rapidly grew.

Now, more than two months after its release, people are still clamoring for the gold iPhone.

Industry experts say the backup is because of the increased demand in Asia for anything gold.

"One reason supplies of Apple's gold iPhone 5S are backed up is because the company has under-supplied the Asian desire for objects that are gold," Business Insider reported. "While almost all countries and cultures prize gold over other metals and colors, or at least attach special significance to it, gold in Asia is perhaps even more fetishized than in the West."

Others say the supply problem is because Apple is focusing more on developing its 5C model.

"Several earlier reports also suggested that the iPhone 5S will be hard to come by in general, as Apple may be focusing on the lower-cost iPhone 5C, which could be in higher demand and easier to produce in large numbers right now," according to TheVerge.com
