Those visiting the Grand Canyon over the weekend got the chance to witness "a once-in-a-lifetime, outstanding, crazy, amazing, mind-blowing" scene when rolling clouds of fog filled up the entire gorge.
Breathtaking photos posted on the Grand Canyon National Park's Facebook and Twitter pages show the two temperature inversions, which are created when warm air rises above cooler air.

The rare occurrence was especially significant because it caused the entire canyon to fill up with "clouds." Temperature inversions usually only partially fill the massive ravine.
The photos amazed Facebook users who flooded the page with comments.
"Mother nature is amazing!" one Facebook user wrote.
"That was really a magnificent view," someone else posted. "I was watching it with my mouth hanging open."
"I love the Grand Canyon and these pictures are absolutely amazing," another commented.
