Hailey Burns, a 17-year-old North Carolina teen missing for a year, has been found, and a 31-year-old man has been arrested in her disappearance.
Burns disappeared in June 2016 when she was 16 from her home in Charlotte, and was found at a home in Duluth, Georgia, with Michael Ren Wysolovski, who was arrested and charged with a number of crimes including false imprisonment, aggravated sodomy, and cruelty to children–deprivation, Fox News reported. Wysolovski was not given bond after the arrest and remains in custody.
Burns’ family said she had written in her diary that she planned to run away with a man she met online. Her family said they had taken steps to keep her away from computers, cell phones and the internet, but she found a way to communicate anyway, USA Today reported.
Her family also said she had Asberger’s Syndrome and didn’t take her medication when she left the home, USA Today reported.
A neighbor in Georgia reported Burns had unloaded groceries from the car and waved to him, and that he didn’t realize she was being held captive, Fox News reported.
Burns was found after she connected with a Romanian woman online and the woman learned the teen was missing.
The FBI, Charlotte-Mechlenburg Police Department and Gwinnett County Police department are continuing to investigate the case jointly, Fox News reported.
Wysolovski will appear in court before a judge Monday, Fox News reported.
Many on Twitter were happy Burns had been found and said that prayers had been answered.
