A Hampton Inn employee in Kentucky was fired after refusing to undergo an exorcism and being asked by his boss if he had made a pact with Satan, according to a recent lawsuit.
In a filing in Perry County Circuit Court, Jason Fields accused his former Hampton Inn manager, Sharon Lindon, of religious discrimination after she said he needed a spiritual cleanse to continue working for her, according to WLEX-TV.
The ordeal started when Fields told Lindon he was getting a divorce — something his manager believed was caused by demons. The cleansing in question was intended to be a form of exorcism, which Lindon herself had allegedly undergone three or four times in the past.
Fields stated that the situation grew increasingly worse after members of Lindon’s church showed up at the workplace to pray for him during his shift. The former hotel employee added that, in addition to being pressured to undergo the exorcism, he was handed a questionnaire asking about his romantic and sexual history and whether he had made a pact with Satan.
According to the lawsuit, Fields' shift and job duties were changed when he refused to undergo the exorcism and hand in the form, Nation of Blue reported. He was allegedly overlooked for a raise, denied time off work, and threatened with termination.
Fields eventually resigned from his front desk position and filed suit, seeking a jury trial.
