Republican Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos gained the endorsement of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in his quest to unseat U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson.

Huckabee, a potential GOP candidate for president, said, "We need a new generation of proven fiscal and social conservative leaders in the U.S. Senate, and that is why I am proud to endorse and support my good friend, Mike Haridopolos for the U.S. Senate in Florida."

Accepting the endorsement, Haridopolos said: “The governor and I both agree that we need someone who will fight for fiscal and social conservative values — reducing the size of government, fighting Obamacare, and protecting the unborn.

“I am honored to have such a tremendous conservative leader like Governor Huckabee stand with me and other Floridians to tell Washington that enough is enough.”
