Former Boston-area news anchor Heather Unruh said Wednesday that actor Kevin Spacey sexually assaulted her son, then 18, at a Nantucket bar in July 2016.
Unruh told reporters during a news conference that her son was “starstruck” upon meeting Spacey last year and told the actor he was of legal drinking age, USA Today reported. Unruh alleged Spacey then bought her son enough drinks to get him drunk, after which she said Spacey put his hand into the boy’s pants and touched his genitals.
Unruh said Spacey also tried to get her son to go to a private after-party with him, but a female bystander asked the teen if he was OK and told him to run when he said he wasn’t, USA Today reported.
“Nothing could’ve prepared my son for how that sexual assault would make him feel as a man. It harmed him and it cannot be undone,” Unruh said tearfully, USA Today reported.
The teen filed a police report in Nantucket last week and provided evidence, Unruh said, USA Today reported. According to Unruh, a criminal investigation was opened. She said her son wanted to “stop Kevin Spacey from victimizing anyone else,” USA Today reported.
Unruh also said it was shameful that Spacey used his apology to Anthony Rapp to come out as gay and called him a “sexual predator” and “criminal” who should go to prison.
Since Oct. 29, more than a dozen men have accused Oscar-winning Spacey of sexually harassing, groping, assaulting, or attempting to rape them over several decades.
Twitter pointed out the hypocrisy of many of those accused, including Spacey, and hoped he would be punished if he is found guilty.
