Former "Home Improvement" star Zachery Ty Bryan has been arrested for trying to strangle his girlfriend, according to police. The 39-year-old now faces charges of "strangulation, assault in the fourth degree, and interfering with making a report," E! News reported.
The incident took place on Friday night. Police responding to a neighbor’s call about a physical dispute arrived at Bryan's residence in Eugene, Oregon, to discover the actor sitting outside his apartment. The victim, who is believed to be his girlfriend, was at a neighboring apartment, a spokesperson for the Eugene Police Department said.
"An investigation found that during the dispute, Bryan is reported to have assaulted the victim, impeded her breathing, and taken the victim's phone from her when she tried to call 911," the spokesperson explained. "The victim declined medics. Bryan was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Lane County Jail."
The incident comes days after Bryan announced his split from wife, Carly Matros, E! News noted.
"Almost Fourteen years as best friends, soulmates, partners and then parents. It has been an incredible journey, but together, we've decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage," the actor wrote to social media, according to the outlet.
"As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority," his message continued. "We understand this news lends itself to public dialogue, but in the interest of our children and our family, we're asking for privacy, compassion and love during this time. Thank you."
Bryan and Matros share four children — twins Taylor Simone Bryan and Gemma Rae Bryan, who were born in 2014, Jordana Nicole Bryan, who was born in 2016, and Pierce Alexander Bryan, who was born in 2019, according to The Sun.
