Curt Schilling has a new syndicated radio show via Boston-based Howie Carr Radio Network.
The former Boston Red Sox All-Star pitcher, who is a former analyst on ESPN, will do a three-hour show Saturday mornings 9 a.m. to noon Eastern time on the Howie Carr Radio Network, Talkers magazine reported. The show also will be available for national syndication to other stations around the country.
"This is a great beginning for what we hope will be a star-studded lineup on the Howie Carr Radio Network," the network's operations manager Jared Goodell said, according to Talkers. "Curt has proven to be a stand-up guy and he is going to be a great radio talk show host.
"Our goal at The Howie Carr Radio Network is to become the premiere provider of talk radio content for the future. We strongly believe that Curt Schilling is the answer to the nagging question of 'who's next?' in the business. Curt brings spirited, educated and level-headed conversations to the table and is passionate about talking with the listeners," Goodell added.
Schilling is expected to cover various issues from sports to politics on the show.
According to the Howie Carr Radio Network, Schilling will launch his first show on Saturday. The flagship Howie Carr Show is heard on radio stations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Schilling was fired from ESPN in April after drawing criticism for promoting what some thought was offensive commentary on social media in response to the North Carolina law that bars transgender people from using bathrooms and locker rooms that do not correspond with their birth genders, The New York Times reported.
Schilling defended himself on WEEI radio in Boston against intolerance and racism criticism, noted the Times.
"To be in a place where people actually believe I'm a racist or I'm transphobic says to me that something has gone horribly askew somewhere," Schilling told WEEI in April before he was released by ESPN.
On the "Dan Patrick Show" in May, Schilling revealed his ESPN salary, adding that too many broadcasters are afraid to share their true thoughts for fear of a "vocal minority," NESN reported.
"I'm lucky and I'm blessed in the sense that the job I had, I was making $2.5 million a year," Schilling said, according to NESN. "I didn't have to have it to put food on the table and a roof over my family's head. Because maybe I'd act differently if that was the case.
"I'm at a place and time in my life where I'm sick and tired of looking at people … they're not in position to speak their mind because they're afraid of the vocal minority. And that's not me," Schilling continued.
