Hulk Hogan's signed wrestling shoe, valued at $5,500, was returned Thursday night after a Michigan tourist stole it Sunday from Hogan's Beach Shop in Clearwater Beach, Fla.

According to Clearwater police, the offender told the store that she "had done a stupid thing" and wanted to return the shoe, The Associated Press reported.

Though the tourist, whose identity was not revealed, had apparently already returned to Michigan, the shoe had been left with friends in the Sunshine State, who brought it back to the store Thursday, CBS affiliate WTSP 10 News reported.

Police have yet to file charges in connection with the theft.

The Steve Cardillo shoe, once worn by Hogan while he was wrestling, was eventually going to be auctioned off to benefit a local charity for amputees, Hogan Beach Shop employee Ron Howard told WTSP.

The theft reportedly occurred when the store staff was distracted after a large statue of Hogan fell over outside the store. Employees reportedly didn't realize the shoe was missing until two days after it had been taken.

Police initially examined footage from a surveillance camera and saw a woman who appeared to be in her 50s use the distraction of the fallen Hogan statue to lift the piece of memorabilia without being noticed by store employees.

Hogan, the 60-year-old semi-retired professional wrestler and entrepreneur, did not react publicly to the theft of the shoe or its return.
