Hulk the pit bull already weighs 175 pounds at only 18 months old, but his owners say he's is a "gentle giant" and they hope he will change the negative perception of the breed – which would be good for them since they breed pit bulls for a living.
Marlon and Lisa Grennan say Hulk is so comfortable around them that he's best friend to their 3-year-old son Jordan,
reported ABC News.
Just how big is Hulk? According to
DogTime.com, the average American pit bull can weigh anywhere from 30 to 85 pounds and has a lifespan of 12 to 16 years. Vets say small dogs generally hit adulthood in about a year, big dogs in two and huge dogs in three.
"He's a wonderful, excellently trained dog," said Marlon Grennan, who with his wife owns Dark Dynasty K9s in New Hampshire, a family-owned kennel that breeds and trains American pit bull terriers as protection dogs for clients worldwide. "He plays with my kid, he's great with the family and he's so, so sweet."
"Because pit bulls are only in the media when bad things happen, this myth of them as monsters gets perpetuated, but it's not true. They might not be for everyone, but under a good leader and with proper training, they make amazing family and work or protection dogs," said Grennan.
Social media is fascinated with Hulk, with the YouTube video the Grennans made of their dog getting 8.27 million views since February.
Lisa Grennan told the
New York Post that while Hulk has a healthy appetite, chowing down four pounds of ground beef daily, she has no hesitation keeping the dog around her young son.
"I don't think it’s irresponsible at all for people to have pit bulls and their children," said Lisa Grennan. "No matter what the breed, it' all completely on how you raise them."
Marlon Grennan told the Post that his trained pit bulls sell from $1,500 to $30,000, but the current family star is not on the auction block, regardless of the price.
"I would never consider selling Hulk," said Marlon Grennan. "You could throw $10 million in front of me, and I would throw it right back at you."
