iPhone 5S Rumor: Newest Apple Smartphone Has Super Retina Display

A new report on the Chinese gadget blog WeiPhone claims that Apple’s next generation smartphone, the iPhone 5S, will have more new features than most are expecting when it makes its debut this fall.

Most notably, the report claims the upcoming device will have a new Retina display that packs twice as many pixels into a panel of the same size as the current model’s display and a narrower bezel around the display.

BGR previously revealed that a number of internal components have been redesigned for the newest iPhone, but a significant external redesign is not expected.

WeiPhone, which has reported accurate details about unannounced Apple products in the past but has also issued some reports that were incorrect, according to BGR, says the next iPhone will debut in September.

The iPhone 6, a less expensive model that lacks Siri, will come out around the same time as the 5S. According to the International Business Times, Apple is still crunching numbers and putting together a marketing strategy so the iPhone 6 doesn’t offset 5S sales.

The new phone is rumored to have an integrated fingerprint sensor, which would give Apple an edge over its prime competitor, Samsung, and make users feel their phones are as secure as possible.

"It's intuitive, it's secure and it makes customers feel like secret agents. Apple knew fingerprint sensing technology would be a hit a long time ago, so the company invested millions of dollars to start implementing this technology as soon as possible," International Business Times' Dave Smith wrote in March. "[The] technology is so smart, it can differentiate your fingers so as to associate different functions with those fingers. For example, you can use different fingers to play music, or ask for directions, or call a particular contact."

Additionally, photos obtained by BGR reveal that the SIM trays are thinner than the trays from the current-generation iPhone 5. One tray also appears to be golden or beige in color, which could support earlier rumors that the iPhone 5S will be available in several new colors.

Around the same time the 5S comes out, Apple’s iOS 7 operating system update will  debut as well, and engineers are working on a major overhaul of the user interface that will be no more difficult to use than current versions, though its look may be “unsettling” to longtime iOS users, according to BGR.
