Jared Fogle's relationship with Subway has been suspended after authorities raided the pitchman's home this week in connection to a child porn investigation.
“Subway and Jared Fogle have mutually agreed to suspend their relationship due to the current investigation. Jared continues to cooperate with authorities and he expects no actions to be forthcoming. Both Jared and Subway agree that this was the
appropriate step to take,” a Subway representative told Fox 59.
The sandwich chain also tweeted the news to followers:
Authorities raided Fogle’s Zionsville home where he lives with his wife and children around 6 a.m. Tuesday in connection to a child pornography case. Federal, state, and local agencies, with help from the Subway celebrity, moved DVDs and computers from Fogle’s house into a mobile forensics lab in the driveway. The raid is thought to be in connection to the case involving Russel Taylor, the former director of the Fogle's nonprofit who was arrested for possession of child porn earlier this year.
Fogle left his house around noon Tuesday in his attorney Ron Elberger’s car.
“Jared has been cooperating with law enforcement and its investigation of certain unspecified activities and looks forward to its conclusion. Jared has not been arrested, detained or charged with anything,” Elberger told Fox 59.
“We are shocked about the news and believe it is related to a prior investigation of a former Jared Foundation employee. We are very concerned and will be monitoring the situation closely. We don’t have any more details at this point,” Subway announced in a statement issued after the incident and before formally severing ties with Fogle, whose weight loss gave the restaurant chain’s sandwiches invaluable publicity.
Many of Fogle’s neighbors witnessed the raid. Jacob Schrader lives across the street from the Subway pitchman and said he seems like a
“pretty private guy,” The Associated Press reported.
"He's like an endangered species or something like that,” the 19-year-old said of his neighbor whom he rarely sees.
