Fox Sports reporter Jay Glazer has accused ESPN of stealing his news scoop that Johnny Manziel would replace Brian Hoyer as starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns this coming weekend.
"Haha an all-time low from @ESPN on their constant thievery of other's work," Glazer posted Tuesday
on Twitter.
The team's decision to start Manziel apparently came Monday, and the very next day Glazer's broke the news via Twitter with the help of his sources at the team.
Almost immediately after,
ESPN had posted its own article breaking the same news, claiming they had also gotten the scoop. The phrase "sources confirmed to ESPN" appeared in the first paragraph of the ESPN article. It didn't give credit to Fox Sports until the fourth paragraph, where it states, "Cleveland's choice to start Manziel was reported earlier Tuesday by Fox Sports."
Glazer suspected that ESPN was lying about having its own sources on the story, and that editors there simply stole his scoop and claimed they had gotten it too.
He apparently had a colleague call ESPN to see if that was the case, but apparently editors there stuck by their story, refusing to name the sources of the information or the reporter that got the scoop from them.
"FOX PR guy calls them to call BS on their claim they had Manziel scoop. News desk guy @sportscenter tells him their reporter didn't want to be identified. Huh? What reporter doesn't want credit for hard work paying off? Lying bastards. Haha," Glazer wrote on Twitter.
