Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie missed an awkward red carpet run-in this week when they showed up within minutes of each other at the 20th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards.
Both women were snubbed earlier in the day by the Academy Awards — Aniston for an expected best actress nomination in the movie "Cake" and Jolie for best director and possible best movie for her motion picture "Unbroken." More personally, both women are connected by Aniston's former husband and Jolie's current husband Brad Pitt.
E! News wrote that Thursday was the first major Hollywood event that both have attended since the 81st annual Academy Awards in 2009.
"Jennifer Aniston . . . walked the red carpet first and the crowd audibly went wild, calling the star's name," the celebrity gossip site reported. "We're told that Jolie didn't start walking the carpet until after Aniston was finished. Coincidence? Um, probably. They are two grown ladies, after all."
Us Weekly wrote back in August 2013 that Aniston and Jolie were both booked to fly first class on the same British Airways flights from Los Angeles to London before Aniston abruptly changed her flight plans, according to a source.
"Whether it was because Angelina was on the Sunday flight, we don't really know, but she did change it," the source told Us Weekly. "The airline has VIP greeters who do chat about this sort of thing and may have informed each other of the [Aniston-Jolie] conflict but nobody can say for sure."
Aniston later denied the conflict through her representative.
"We were always leaving for London on Monday on the flight we took," the representative told the celebrity magazine. "Plus, we don't know the travel plans of Angelina."
The New York Daily News reported that Aniston, who was married to Pitt from 2000 to 2005, has said in other media reports that she is "in a happier place" now with her fiancé, actor Justin Theroux.
"Happiness is a choice," Aniston said, according to the newspaper.
Pitt and Jolie reportedly began to get close during the filming of the 2005 motion picture "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," leading to the decline of his marriage with Aniston.
