Jerry Seinfeld is spoofing 1960s car commercials in a series of intentionally bad Acura car ads as part of his Emmy-nominated web series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee."

The series will feature eight commercials directed by filmmaker Barry Sonnenfeld in which various 2014 Acura car models are highlighted in scenarios that appear to be right out of the 1960s.

"To me, what was funny was a car from 2014 gets transported back to an ad agency in 1965 which is somewhat incompetent," Seinfeld told The New York Times. "The feeling that I'm trying to give the consumer is, 'We don't get you — we are so out of touch that we're bragging that our cars are metal."

"Cars in the desert: We’re tired of it," added Seinfeld, who himself is a collector fond of vintage Porsches. "Nobody wants to see the cars in the desert, we’re not in the desert."

Seinfeld starred on camera in Acura's 2012 Super Bowl commercial, but in this new arrangement his role was solely behind the camera, as writer and creative collaborator, according to the car maker in company press release.

In one ad we see four astronauts arrive late to their launch with a voice-over saying "when space isn't even enough space" for the Acura MDX SUV, while in another we see a family about to go on a picnic packing "90 cubic feet of potato salad" into the cargo area of the 2014 MDX with the father character telling the viewer, "Man, that Acura's spacious trunk seems about made for potato salad."

"Jerry is a comedic genius. His creativity and dedication to excellence made these new spots the gems that they are," Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co. said in the news release. "We seek to continually innovate our marketing at Acura. 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' and these fun ads perfectly align to our independent thinking, car enthusiast target customers."

All eight of the commercials are available on Acura's YouTube page; below are a sampling of two.
