Funnyman Jerry Seinfeld didn’t appear too funny to fans of Kesha, or even the pop singer herself, when he refused to give her a hug at a celebrity event.

While Seinfeld was being interviewed by Tommy McFly Monday during the Night of Laughter & Song, held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Kesha interrupted telling the comedian, “Oh my gosh, I love you so much,” a video of the encounter shows.

Seinfeld thanked her and Kesha asked, “Can I give you a hug?”

Seinfeld said, “no thanks,” declining Kesha’s persistence several times and even backing off from the singer.

Kesha then quickly walked away and Seinfeld laughed. He told the reporter he “didn’t know who that was.” When he found out, he said he wished her the best.

Kesha didn’t seem to be fazed by the rejection, writing Tuesday on Twitter she has “lots to smile about.”

Other Twitter users had a heyday with the awkward encounter.
