Jim Carrey eBay Trading Suggests Site Censors Gun-Related Offers

An eBay user's attempt to sell a signed Jim Carrey photo so that he could "afford a gun," as the description said, has been deleted and reposted. The revised version omits the firearm reference.

Other auctions for Carrey paraphernalia with mention of guns or gun rights' organizations were also edited to exclude mention of firearms.

There hasn't been any explanation from eBay about the changes.

The auction trend began earlier this week, in response to Carrey's recent anti-gun parody "Cold Dead Hand" on humor website FunnyorDie.com, in which the comedic actor implies gun advocacy is backwards, mocking the late Hollywood legend Charlton Heston for his pro Second Amendment stance.

One eBay user, Astrobuzz, tried to sell the photo with the tagline "Jim Carrey Autographed 8X10 Photo So I Can Afford a Gun!"

The item, an autographed print of Carrey with his line "Spank you very much!" would have probably gone for around $8, according to the Hollywood Reporter. However, 103 bidders valued the item at $860 before the post was removed.

Once the item was taken off the site late Wednesday, the bidders disappeared.

The item reappeared with a revised description.

"I'm selling this Jim Carrey autographed B&W photo (mint condition) for purposes I cannot explain because it might be against eBay's Terms & Conditions," it said.

Sellers who copied Astrobuzz claimed to be auctioning Carrey items off to obtain concealed-carry permits or become a member of the National Rifle Association, but by late Wednesday, all of these post descriptions were revised to exclude the references.

Carrey, however, has not been subtle about his views on guns, confronted critics on Twitter earlier this week.

"Thx 4 your input 2day.I don't think i've ever felt so despised and so free at the same time. It's been delightfully. ;^}" he said.

Previously, Carrey lambasted gun rights advocates, calling them "heartless mother******* unwilling 2 bend 4 the safety of our kids."

Carrey also wrote, "Any1 who would run out to buy an assault rifle after the Newtown massacre has very little left in their body or soul worth protecting. ;^\"
