A Joey Feek memorial, where the public can say goodbye to the late
country music singer who died of cancer Friday, will take place in Indianapolis Sunday in the Alexandria-Monroe High School gymnasium.
Feek, the 40-year-old songstress who made up half of the award-winning musical duo Joey + Rory, graduated from the high school, located about 55 miles
northeast of Indianapolis, in 1994, according to her obituary. The school is also right near her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana, where she spent her final months before succumbing to cervical cancer.
Joey's husband Rory Feek will attend the memorial service with the couple's daughters and
family members, according to Fox59.com. The Grammy-nominated pair was followed by many on social media through Rory Feek's blog, "This Life I Live," where he kept readers abreast of his wife's progress throughout her illness.
"After four-and-a-half months in Indiana, we will soon be back home in Tennessee,"
Rory Feek posted on Friday when he announced that his wife had died. The couple lived in Columbia, Tennessee, near Nashville. "Me, and our little one, with our older daughters. It's hard for me to imagine being there without Joey, but at the same time . . . it is where she wants us to be."
"It's where she will be . . . She's gonna be in the mint growing beside our back deck, the sweet-corn frozen in our freezer and a million other places that her hand and heart has touched around our little farmhouse and community. Joey will still be with us. Everywhere," Rory Feek wrote.
Joey moved to Nashville in 2002 to begin a singing career and met Rory Feek, a singer and established country songwriter, that same year, according to her obituary. As the duo Joey + Rory, they won a recording contract after finishing third in the CMT talent search show "Can You Duet" in 2008.
The couple won various awards from the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association. They were even nominated for their first Grammy Award this year for the song "If I Needed You."
