Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel pleaded guilty Monday to a charge he misidentified himself to police in 2012, ending a yearlong saga that overshadowed his freshman college year.
In June 2012, Manziel was in the middle of a fight in College Station, Texas, and when police questioned him, he gave them a Louisiana driver’s license showing a birth year of 1990. However, the police
found his real license that said 1992, USA Today reported.

The Bryan-College Station Eagle reported that two other charges against the football player were dropped.
In the plea agreement, the Eagle said, Manziel will pay a $2,000 fine and pay $2,323 in court costs. Two days of jail time won’t happen because Manziel already spent time in jail after the arrest.
Police reports, according to the Eagle, indicated a friend of Manziel’s apparently used a racial slur against another man, and when the man confronted the two, Manziel ended up fighting him. Police broke up the fight, but Manziel gave them the fake driver’s license.
The incident looked like it might harm Manziel’s freshman year of play as quarterback for Texas A&M, USA Today said. He was suspended for the 2012 season initially, but was reinstated after Coach Kevin Sumlin
wrote a letter asking that the suspension be lifted, CBS Sports said.
The result? Manziel was the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, and he earned the nickname “Johnny Football.” In the last month,
CBS Sports reported that rumors continue that Manziel will leave Texas A&M, particularly after the football star tweeted a negative remark about College Station.
