Actor Jon Hamm said that starring on "Mad Man" is the best job he ever had, a far cry from his former life in the porn industry and on a dating show.
“This is the best job I’ve ever had and maybe ever will have in my life — it’s so fun to play all of this,"
he told Vanity Fair for the June issue. "It can be relentlessly dark. It can be terribly sexually inappropriate, is a way to say it. But who else gets a chance to do any of that stuff? There’s so much there.”
Hamm, plays Don Draper on the 1960s-era series, said his life wasn't always glamorous. He started in show business as a set dresser for soft porn productions for Cinemax. He also appeared on "The Big Date" dating show in 1996.

"It was soul-crushing," Hamm told Vanity Fair of his time with Cinemax. "('Mad Men') is the best job I've ever had and maybe ever will have in my life — it's so fun to play all of this. It can be relentlessly dark. It can be terribly sexually inappropriate, is a way to say it. But who else gets a chance to do any of that stuff? There's so much there."
Hamm and Rudd, star of such comedies as "This is 40" and "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," are friends now but in college both had an eye for Sarah Clarke, the sister of Preston Clarke, Hamm's friend and Rudd's college roommate at the University of Kansas.
Preston Clarke told Vanity Fair that Hamm took his sister to the prom but hit it off with Rudd after they met. He described to the magazine an incident where Hamm and Rudd dueled in a game of Trivial Pursuit back at his parents' home in St. Louis.
"I thought (Rudd) was coming to visit me, but obviously he was coming to visit my sister," Preston Clarke told Vanity Fair. "Hamm was there because he was always at my house. And Paul knew that Jon had taken Sarah to prom. He was slightly intimidated. And then we started playing Trivial Pursuit."
Rudd admitted to Vanity Fair that Hamm got the best of him that night, saying that Hamm would ace history questions in the game.
Hamm will star in the upcoming movie "Million Dollar Arm," which will hit movie theaters on May 16. The movie is based on a true story about a sports agent who staged a contest in India to recruit its top cricket players as Major League pitchers, wrote USA Today.
