Jon Voight, the Oscar-winning father of Angelina Jolie, has reacted to the Brangelina split Tuesday, saying that he was concerned for his daughter but did not know why the couple called it quits.
Voight previously said he was "very sad" about the divorce, according to "Inside Edition."
"Something very serious must have happened for Angie to make a decision like this," Voight told "Inside Edition." "I don't know what it is. It's a sad thing. Say a little prayer."
Voight told the television news magazine that he learned about the divorce from his son.
"I am concerned for Angie and the children and hopefully I will be seeing them very soon," Voight told "Inside Edition."
Voight, 77, and Jolie, 41, have had a rocky relationship. In the past, she criticized her father for cheating on her now-deceased mother Marcheline Bertrand and abandoning the family when she was young, according to the Daily Mail.
The two had a public falling out in 2002 but reconciled in 2010, the Daily Mail reported. Even with the reconciliation, Voight did not attend Jolie's wedding to Pitt in 2014 and she declined to tell him about her decision to have a preventative double mastectomy in May 2013, wrote the Daily Mail.
Voight, an outspoken conservative, has made headlines this year for endorsing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt, 52, in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences, according to People magazine. The actress and humanitarian is asking for custody of the couple's shared six children — Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox — and is requesting that Pitt be granted visitation rights, stated People, citing court documents.
"This decision was made for the health of the family," Jolie's attorneys said in a statement, according to People. "She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time."
Pitt also released a statement, saying, "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
Celebrity gossip sites speculated on the cause of the split.
"Sources connected with the couple tell us Angelina's decision to file has to do with the way Brad was parenting the children," TMZ noted. "She was extremely upset with his methods."
