The JonBenet Ramsey murder mystery dominated the headlines in 1996 and now, as we approach the 20th anniversary of one of the most intriguing cases in U.S. history, Americans everywhere are still asking "whodunnit?"

As the December date creeps closer, new details have been revealed in a series of televised specials commemorating the anniversary. From a two-hour CBS documentary to an exclusive Dr. Phil interview with the beauty queen's brother Burke Ramsey, the renewed interest in the case has shed light on some new tidbits.

According to The Huffington Post, the murder of the six-year-old child beauty queen remains one of the biggest mysteries in America nearly 20 years later.

It was December 26, 1996, the day after Christmas, when Patsy Ramsey awoke to find her daughter JonBenet missing from the family's Boulder, Colorado, home. Frantic, she ran downstairs and stumbled across a note detailing a kidnapping and a $118,000 ransom.

During a search of the house later, the child's lifeless body was found in a basement room referred to as "the wine cellar."

“I was just hoping she would wake up and began to realize that she wasn’t going to, and I started to scream,” father John Ramsey told Dr. Phil McGraw in a new interview.

Though the members of the Ramsey family were all officially ruled out as suspects, a new look at the case raises new questions.

In Dr. Phil’s interview with Burke Ramsey, who was 9 years old at the time of his sister's death, he asks, “Did you witness anything that night that over the last 20 years you have kept a secret?”

Burke responded: “I don’t know anything more than what everyone else already knows.”

The CBS docuseries, “The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey,” gave way to new revelations as a team of forensic experts used a reconstruction of the Ramsey home, as well as crime scene video and photos, to conclude that the intruder theory may be impossible. It is possible, they concluded, that the Ramseys could have been involved, according to Us Weekly.

Here’s a preview of the docuseries, which was released before it aired on CBS Sunday night.
