A Jordan shooting video released this week shows the real story behind the killing of three American Speical Forces soldiers at the King Faisal Air Base last November.

released a shooting video showing U.S. soldiers surrendering before they were shot and killed by a Jordanian military guard.

According to Fox News, which posted the footage, the video shows the U.S. soldiers surrendering with their hands up before they were killed by a Jordanian military guard.

The Jordanian military initially said the U.S. soldiers did not follow "proper protocol" upon entering the facility in southern Jordan.

The soldiers who were gunned down were identified as Staff Sgt. Matthew C. Lewellen, 27; Staff Sgt. Kevin J. McEnroe, 30; and Staff Sgt. James F. Moriarty, 27.

The video shows Jordanian 1st Sgt. Marik al-Tuwayha opening fire on a four-vehicle U.S. convoy. The American soldiers can be seen appearing to surrender to Tuwayha but, after he continued shooting, two of the soldiers left their vehicles to take cover.

The shootout lasted about six minutes.

Only one of the soldiers involved survived the incident, Fox News noted.

According to The New York Times, the incident was initially described as a "split-second mistake" by the Jordanian guard.

Jordanian officials said the soldiers were supposed to stop at the gate of the base, but they didn't. They also said that an American weapon went off by accident, which apparently sparked the shootout — even though the security footage shows the sequence of events differently.

Tawayha, who was wounded in the gun battle, was convicted and sentenced to life in prison last week.
