Judge Judy is TV's Top Earner, Raking in $47 Million a Year

You may not recognize Judy Sheindlin’s name until you plop the “Judge” in front of it, and then the diminutive fireball’s face comes right to mind – sitting behind the bench in her TV courtroom and nailing down a $47 million a year salary.

Yep, Judge Judy ranks as the highest paid TV star, according to TV Guide. She pulls in the big dollars because her show is consistently the top syndicated daytime TV show.

Oprah Winfrey used to give the judge a run for her money, but when Oprah’s show went off the air, Judy took the top spot, Newser said.

TV Guide listed the big payouts made to TV stars, highlighting the fact that Jon Stewart grabbed the No. 1 spot in late-night dollars, making $25 to $30 million a year. Jay Leno and David Letterman both earn about $20 million each.

Judge Judy, a former New York Family Court Judge, is much beloved for her sharp wit and “cut to the heart of it” opinions. Episodes of her show regularly hit Twitter, with fans making plenty of comments:

In primetime, Ashton Kutcher’s role on “Two and a Half Men” earns him $750,000 an episode, although TV Guide reported that “Big Bang Theory” leads may soon each be getting $1 million per show.
