Julia Louis-Dreyfus, fresh off her Emmy wins earlier this month, announced on Twitter Thursday that she is battling breast cancer.
The "Veep" actress, 56, who won her sixth Emmy Award for best actress in a comedy series on Sept. 17, was diagnosed the next day, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
According to People magazine, Louis-Dreyfus now holds the record for most wins for a performance in the same role for the same series. HBO has renewed "Veep" for a final season and said it will adjust the production schedule for the show as needed, THR reported.
"Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time," the network told THR in a statement. "We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of 'Veep.'"
Her costar Tony Hale and other stars sent supportive tweets her way as they heard the news.
Fans were also supportive.
