Justin Bieber's Latin King ad on Spotify has been pulled after outraging Latinos on social media, said Billboard magazine.
A remix of the Spanish-language hit "Despacito" featuring Bieber is currently No. 1 on Spotify's Global Top 50 playlist and has been for six weeks, according to Billboard. The original version by Luis Fonsi, featuring Daddy Yankee is at No. 14.
But Spotify trying to capitalize on Bieber's Spanish-language success with an Instagram ad proclaiming "Justin Bieber, Now Latin King" proved to be a bridge too far for many Latino music fans.
Spotify pulled the ad on June 13, explaining that its intention was to celebrate the song's crossover success, reported the New York Daily News.
"We made a creative decision to feature Justin Bieber in our ad because we wanted to celebrate 'Despacito' as key cultural moment when music genres crossover," a Spotify representative told the Daily News.
Some fans were still angry about Bieber butchering the words to "Despacito" during a performance at the 1 Oak nightclub in New York City in May, an incident that went viral, noted the Huffington Post.
