News correspondent Kate Snow will anchor the Sunday edition of NBC Nightly News, taking on the role in addition to a new two-hour slot on MSNBC on weekday afternoons.
The network announced Snow's anchor selection on Thursday. It was a move that more tightly links the two networks as their leader Andrew Lack works to make things more cohesive and turn the liberal MSNBC "into a more news-focused extension of the NBC News brand in daytime,"
CNN Money said.
Snow also is leading the 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. time slot on MSNBC starting Oct. 4 as part of Lack's changes, CNN said.
"Kate is a compassionate storyteller who approaches every assignment with equal parts determination and heart," Deborah Turness, president of NBC News, said in a
statement. "Her broad range as a journalist, skill as an anchor, and familiarity with our audience is sure to lead 'Nightly' to continued success on Sundays."
Snow has covered five presidential elections, the White House, Congress, and according to the NBC statement, "She has built a reputation for stories that create change and spark national conversations, including a recent series on transgender children and an Emmy-nominated series on America’s heroin epidemic."
Before joining NBC News in 2010, Snow was weekend anchor on "Good Morning America" for six years.
Congratulations to Snow rolled onto social media:
ABC News said Snow's appointment was part of the "transformation" of MSNBC.
"This is a page turn for MSNBC and all of NBC News," ABC quoted Lack.
