Katy Perry Gives Birth to Girl

Katy Perry is officially a mom. The pop icon and fiancé Orlando Bloom welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove, into the world on Wednesday and shared the news on Instagram via UNICEF, which they are both ambassadors for. 

"We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” Perry, 35, and Bloom, 43, captioned a black and white photo of their new baby girl clutching their hands. This is Perry's first child and Bloom's second- he also shares his nine-year-old son, Flynn, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.    

In their birth announcement, Perry and Bloom took the opportunity to highlight the plight of communities around the world that are experiencing a shortage in healthcare workers and basic necessities that could help prevent the spread of diseases like the coronavirus.  

"But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was," the duo continued in their Instagram post.  

"Communities around the world are still experiencing a shortage of healthcare workers and every eleven seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes. Since COVID-19 many more newborn lives are at risk because of the increased lack of access to water, soap, vaccines and medicines that prevent diseases. As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathize with struggling parents now more than ever."   

The couple emphasized the importance of ensuring "every expecting mother has access to a trained health worker and access to quality healthcare." They then appealed to fans to support UNICEF. 

"In celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has, we have set up a donation page to celebrate DDB’s arrival," they continued. "By supporting them, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your [heart] can bloom with generosity."   

Perry and Bloom, who got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019, chose to postpone their wedding earlier this year to focus on “delivering a healthy child.” For his proposal, Bloom presented Perry with an ornate daisy engagement ring, according to Daily Mail. Perry also named her latest single "Daisy." The flower is obviously very significant to them.
