Kelly Ripa was a no-show on Wednesday for "Live! With Kelly and Michael" after news broke that co-host Michael Strahan was leaving for a full-time gig on "Good Morning America."
Strahan made the news official on Wednesday's show, announcing his departure on "Live!" with guest host Ana Gasteyer, reported
TMZ.
"We broke the story Kelly was told at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, just as the announcement was being blasted out to the media ... and she was outraged," said TMZ. "We're told Kelly feels disrespected and humiliated that she wasn't given the courtesy of a heads-up. Our sources say she may not show for the foreseeable future."
Deadline.com said Strahan attempted to play nice during his departure announcement.
"I really want to thank Kelly Ripa," Strahan said. "She has been an amazing influence on me, and truly changed my life. Kelly, I thank you, I love you, and everyone else here at 'Live!'"
Strahan acknowledged a possible controversy, admitting that he's "been in the news lately," but told the audience the move will not happen until September, said Deadline.
"It is the same channel," Strahan said. "I was reading some stuff and it sounded like I died."
TMZ said the relationship between Ripa and Strahan had been on the rocks and was deepened by her being kept in the dark by his departure.
"Sources connected to Kelly and 'Live' tell us, although Michael was under strict orders by Disney CEO Bob Iger not to tell anyone about his move to 'GMA,' she feels as a colleague who played a critical role in his rise to fame on TV ... he should have given her a heads-up," TMZ said.
"… Our sources say she feels (Strahan's) disrespectful to her and is full of himself. Apparently Michael often rolls with an entourage and it doesn't sit well with her."
Strahan, a former star with the New York Giants, has co-hosted "Live!" for the past four years, said the New York Daily News. Regis Philbin, who co-hosted with Ripa until 2011, told her he was leaving just 15 minutes before they went on air to make the formal announcement.
