A Wednesday tweet by Kid Rock seems to confirm the rocker will run for a U.S. Senate seat in 2018.

The singer tweeted a sign that read "Kid Rock for U.S. Senate" with the caption: "I have had a ton of emails and texts asking me if this website is real… http://kidrockforsenate.com  The answer is an absolute YES."

The tweet had more than 1,300 retweets and over 550 comments in just 30 minutes.

He immediately followed up with another tweet: “Stay tuned, I will have a major announcement in the near future.”

Since at least February, there has been a push for Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, to challenge longtime Democrat incumbent Debbie Stabenow. It is thought by some Republicans that Kid Rock could take advantage of a GOP surge in the state, which voted Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

Kid Rock called himself more of a Libertarian in a 2013 Rolling Stone interview and said he was open to hearing other viewpoints.

Twitter comments showed mixed support and a healthy amount of skepticism that he would really run for Senate.
