Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have decided to hire a surrogate to help them have another baby, according to sources close to the couple.
The pair made the decision after Kardashian was told she would be at high risk for complications if she got pregnant for a third time, according to Entertainment Tonight.
The source told ET that Kardashian and West agreed to pay $45,000 in 10 monthly installents to the surrogate, with $5,000 paid for each additional baby (if there were twins or other multiples), and $4,000 to be paid if the surrogate loses reproductive organs as a result of the pregnancy.
According to People, Kardashian suffered from placenta accreta during a previous pregnancy. The condition causes the placenta to adhere to the uterus, and affects about 5 percent of pregnancies. Kardashian blogged about having the placenta scraped away from her uterus by the doctor after a previous delivery, describing it as the most painful experience of her life.
Kardashian and West have two children, daughter North, 4, and son Saint, 18 months. Kardashian also had preeclampsia with her first pregnancy and had to deliver six weeks early.
“I’d love nothing more than to expand my family and just know that I have this world at home that’s safe,” Kardashian said on her reality show, People reported.
The surrogacy agreement stipulates that Kardashian and West “assume the legal and parental responsibilities for any child ... that may possess any congenital or other abnormalities or defects,” TMZ reported.
ET reported both Kardashian’s mother Kris Jenner and older sister Kourtney offered to be her surrogate on an episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” last month.
The prevalent reaction on Twitter seemed to be that it wasn’t really news that people needed to know about.
