A teacher in Wharton, Ohio, was caught on camera grabbing a 6-year-old kindergarten student by the face and lifting him up off the ground in a school hallway.

The teacher, Barb Williams, reportedly received a 10-day suspension for the alleged assault that occurred earlier this month at the Riverdale School in Hancock County.

The child' parents, Anthony and Autumn Nelson, were originally notified about the incident via a letter that was sent to their home, however it wasn't until the school released the video to them that they realized how intense the attack was.

"You can see where she grabs at his face; she slams him against the wall. We thought it was just a little incident that happened, you know that's what the school made it sound like. All of a sudden, we get this video today and this is just outrageous," Anthony Nelson told MyFOXDC.com.

"He was in the other room, and I watched it out in the kitchen and I just started crying. I burst out in tears," Autumn Nelson added in the interview with the local FOX affiliate. "I started calling everybody saying 'I don't know what to do.'"

After seeing the video, the parents told the school district that the 10-day suspension wasn't a severe enough punishment and the teacher needed to be terminated.

"I don't think she should be teaching anymore. I mean honestly in this type of situation, there's no one that should ever put their hands on a child," Anthony Nelson told Toledo News Now.

"He's scared of her, even going to the school next year, even the year after he'll still have to see her if she's present in the building. That’s probably going to scare him," Autumn Nelson added.

Riverdale Local Schools Superintendent Eric Hoffman did not address the Nelsons' demand to have the teacher fired, telling Toledo News Now, "We haven't dealt with this much at Riverdale. First of all I apologize to the parents. This should not happen."

According to Hoffman, Williams has been a teacher at the school for 14 years, and although the incident was caught on camera, it was a fellow teacher that first brought the alleged assault to the attention of school administrators.
