A Krispy Kreme branch in the United Kingdom has withdrawn a promotion for its Krispy Kreme Klub Wednesday after complaints about the KKK association with Klu Klux Klan.
"Krispy Kreme apologizes unreservedly for the inappropriate name of a customer promotion at one of our stores,"
a company spokeswoman told The Guardian. "This promotion was never intended to cause offense. All material has been withdrawn and an internal investigation is currently underway."
A branch Krispy Kreme branch in Hull, England, used the national campaign as part of kids activities during a break from school.
“We don’t have a new name for the event yet but it is still going ahead this week,”
a spokeswoman told the Hull Daily Mail.
As part of the promotion, kids will be invited to decorate doughnuts, play games, and partake in face painting, among other activities. The activities will continue under another name that hasn’t yet been determined.
“We do believe this was a completely unintentional oversight on the part of our longtime franchise partners in the U.K.,"
spokesperson Lafeea Watson told USA Today.
