Kristin Chenoweth charmed and entranced a huge crowd last weekend at the reopening of the New Orleans Saenger Theatre, which was damaged in the Hurricane Katrina flooding.

The Times-Pcayune called Chenoweth a “tiny supernova” who swept across the stage with a powerful voice, encouraging the audience to sing along as she belted out everything from show tunes to country music, including “Mary Poppins” and the gorgeous “Moon River.”

From country a la Dolly Parton to a wide sampling of Judy Garland’s music, Chenoweth’s range and bubbling personality made the re-dedication of the historic theater a memorable event, the Times-Picayune said.

Chenoweth dominated the stage for more than two hours, giving the audience two full performances – the first a Broadway hits revue and the second more of a casual, easy-going rendition of songs she’s known for, the Times-Picayune said.

The diminutive singer gave a performance that drew raves and she felt the love, tweeting afterwards:

Facebook posts after Chenoweth’s high-energy performance showed the impact on those who attended.

Wrote Art Florez, “It was an incredible show and the perfect way to reopen a New Orleans landmark that has been closed since Hurricane Katrina! Thank you Kristin!!!”

Others showed their appreciation for the show on Twitter:
