Lay's cappuccino-flavored potato chips may not keep coffee lovers from brewing a cup in the morning, but the new snack's creator is hoping he will wake up some day soon as the winner of company's second annual taste contest and $1 million.

According to Parade magazine, the cappuccino chips emerged as one of the four finalists in the Frito-Lay contest – along with Cheddar Bacon Macaroni and Cheese, Mango Salsa and Wasabi Ginger. The new chips will hit stores July 28 when chip eaters can begin voting for their favorite until Oct. 18.

Cheesy Garlic Bread emerged as the Lay's winner in last year's contest, edging out Chicken & Waffles and Sriracha. The new chip flavor is now part of the Frito-Lay line.

The four finalists emerged from more than 14 million entries to Frito-Lay, according to ABC News. Chad Scott, a visiting lecturer and doctoral student, pitched the cappuccino flavor to the company.

Scott told "Good Morning America" on Wednesday that "the inspiration on this is just a love of coffee. When a cappuccino is good enough, it puts a punctuation point on my day."

Frito-Lay told The Associated Press that the cappuccino flavor chips will not contain any actual coffee or caffeine. Even though the company discontinued a variety of Cracker Jack that contained caffeine because of low public demand, the Food and Drug Administration had been trying crack down on the increasing number of caffeinated food and drinks.

According to Frito-Lay, fans can vote via its website, and on Twitter, Vine and Instagram. The person submitting the winning flavor will receive $1 million.

Matt Allen, a firefighter, developed the cheddar bacon macaroni and cheese flavor while Meneko Spigner McBeth told ABC News the wasabi ginger flavor was inspired from her grandmother's Japanese heritage. Julia Stanley-Metz offered the mango salsa flavor, noted ABC News.

"The response blew us away," Ram Krishnan, Frito-Lay North America senior vice president of marketing said in a statement. "We can't wait to see which flavor America selects as its favorite."

Even with the fancy new Frito-Lay flavors, including Korean BBQ and Thai Sweet Chili, the top four sellers remain Original, Barbecue, Cheddar & Sour Cream and Sour Cream & Onions, according to Parade.
