Actress Leah Remini is leaving the Church of Scientology because
she believes it is corrupt, an exclusive New York Post Page Six story reported.
The “King of Queens” star is leaving the church after years of “interrogations” and “thought modification” after she questioned leader David Miscavige’s rule and the treatment of members of the Sea Org religious order, the Post story said, quoting an unidentified source.

Her problems apparently started when Remini, who has been a Scientology member for years, asked where Miscavige’s wife, Shelly, was at the wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in 2006. The source told the Post that Remini was “scolded” for asking the question, and then blacklisted, interrogated, and subjected to thought modification.
The tip Remini was leaving the church was
published on Tony Ortega’s “On Scientology” blog on Friday. The blogger asked for sources to talk about what’s happening with Remini and got several who confirmed her problems with the church.
Ortega explained in the post why Remini’s questioning Shelly Miscavige’s absence was such a big deal.
“We’ve written about Shelly Miscavige several times before, and in our most thorough story yet about her vanishing, we provided details about her deteriorating relationship with her husband, and explained why we believe she’s being kept out of sight at a secretive Scientology facility near Lake Arrowhead in the mountains above Los Angeles,” Ortega wrote. “Shelly has not been seen by the rest of the membership of the church since 2006, except for one sighting when she was allowed to attend the funeral of her father in August 2007.”
Mike Rinder, a former Sea Org member, wrote on his blog that he knew and admired Remini and that he’d heard a lot of the same stories about the actress as Ortega.
“Funny, endearing and abrasive all at once, she does not sit quietly when she knows something is wrong,” Rinder wrote. “And she is unwilling to keep her mouth shut when she knows injustices are being perpetrated on those who have no voice to speak for themselves.”
