Leonardo DiCaprio, spotted riding with a jetpack earlier this week in Ibiza, Spain, appears to be taking his 2004 role in the flick "The Aviator" seriously.

Wearing a helmet and life jacket, the 38-year-old actor rose several feet above the water using the flyboarding equipment, a water-propelled jetpack that can shoot a rider up to 30 feet in the air.

He was spending the day aboard a luxury yacht with friends off the coast of the Spanish island.

Fishermen, scientists, and officials have questioned the safety of the jetpacks, and are concerned about how they may affect fish and coral in the heavily trafficked tropical waters, according to the Daily Mail.

University of Hawaii coral scientist Bob Richmond told officials he was concerned about the noise from the jet packs, which could force fish to avoid the area. Richmond also warned that fish and coral larvae could get pumped through some of the equipment the watercraft use and die.

The day before DiCaprio was spotted on the jet pack, the "Great Gatsby" actor was caught on camera kissing his latest flame, 21-year-old Victoria's Secret model Toni Garnn. They were later seen getting romantic aboard the boat.

Previously, DiCaprio was linked to actress Blake Lively and model Bar Refaeli.

DiCaprio's latest film, "The Wolf of Wall Street," is slated to come out in January 2013. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film is based on the memoirs of stockbroker Jordan Belfort, who chronicles his rise to becoming a Long Island penny trader living a lavish lifestyle and then subsequent downward spiral involving corruption charges. Belfort served 20 months in prison for refusing to cooperate in a 1990s securities fraud case.

The film also features Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Jon Favreau, and Kyle Chandler. It is the fifth collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio, after "Shutter Island," "The Departed," "The Aviator," and "Gangs of New York."
