"Terminator" star Linda Hamilton was the epitome of strength and sex appeal in the 1990s -- an image she has carried well into her sixties. Yet the iconic actress admits she has been celibate for more than 15 years. It’s not that she has consciously avoided the dating world. She just likes her alone time, she says.

Hamilton was married to Bruce Abbott for seven years, until they   parted ways in 1989. She then tied the knot with director James Cameron in 1997. They divorced two years later, Fox News reported.

Now Hamilton is enjoying being on her own.

"I love my alone time like no one you’ve ever met," she said in an interview with the The New York Times. "I’ve been celibate for at least 15 years. One loses track, because it just doesn’t matter — or at least it doesn’t matter to me. I have a very romantic relationship with my world every day and the people who are in it."

It has been nearly three decades since Hamilton appeared in "Terminator" as Sarah Connor. The film was directed by Cameron and released in 1984.

At the time she was married to Abbott. They had a son together but it was not long before their marriage dissolved. It was around that time that Cameron told Hamilton about the "Terminator" sequel. She jumped at the opportunity to reprise her role.

"Having been left, I just needed to get up on my feet and be strong and do nothing but mother my child and get ready for this film," she told the New York Times.

Shortly after "Terminator 2" wrapped, Hamilton and Cameron decided to move in together and soon had a daughter. Hamilton said the relationship was her response to fame.

"My answer to being that 'overnight success' was to go and get pregnant with Jim Cameron and completely disappear. What timing!" she told the New York Times.

After seven years the couple decided to get married, but in 1999 they parted ways. Hamilton said she was "completely devastated" when things ended with Cameron. So she was surprised when he approached her to once again play Sarah Connor. After giving it some thought, Hamilton agreed.

Now, with "Terminator: Dark Fate" due out in November, Hamilton looks back at the time on set with fondness.

"I spent three months on the couch eating pie, and then I woke up one morning and went, 'Damn, that was fun!'" she told the New York Times of the weeks that followed filming. "It was the hardest thing, and the greatest thing. "And isn’t that what we want?"
