Lindsay Lohan was hospitalized this week with the mosquito-borne Chikungunya virus she contracted over her holiday vacation in Bora Bora.

Lohan has been battling the virus for weeks, and reported on Instagram in early January that she was "still with Chikungunya but feeling better on and off."

Apparently she took a turn for the worse, however, as TMZ reported Wednesday that she was admitted to King Edward VII's Hospital in London, the same place Queen Elizabeth gets her checkups. Dina Lohan, Lindsay's mother, was en route to London as soon as her daughter checked in.

TMZ reported that Lohan was soon released from the hospital after her fever broke. Her joint pain is persistent, however, and she's been referred to a specialist.

Chikungunya is "characterized by an abrupt onset of fever frequently accompanied by joint pain" the World Health Organization reports.

"The joint pain is often very debilitating, but usually lasts for a few days or may be prolonged to weeks. Most patients recover fully, but in some cases joint pain may persist for several months, or even years."

After her trip to Bora Bora, Lohan reportedly flew back to Los Angeles to shoot a commercial for Esurance, a subsidiary of Allstate. Lohan is certainly no stranger to making car insurance claims, as she's racked up multiple DUIs and allegedly hit a baby stroller in 2010.
