After her ex-husband Burt Reynolds announced he is selling more than 600 personal items, actress Loni Anderson got in the act and announced she is selling off stuff, too, including Reynolds' 1998 Golden Globe, and doing it a week ahead of him.
According to
Entertainment Tonight, Anderson said the idea for the auction was hatched over a dinner she had with Reynold and their adopted son, and has more to do with clutter than facing any kind of financial doom.
"Jon Voight was at the dinner with us, and we were all talking about all the stuff that you accumulate over the years," Anderson told ET. "We'd been thinking about scaling back: 'What are we gonna do with all this stuff? Do you have a museum for yourself? No.' And so what are you gonna do with it? Share it."
Julien's Auctions will handle Anderson's sale this weekend in Beverly Hills, the same auction house that will handle Reynold's Las Vegas sale the following weekend.
Anderson, who was nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards while starring in "WKRP in Cincinnati" from 1978 to 1982, also appeared in seven films including the movie "Stroker Ace" with Reynolds.
Anderson will auction off memorabilia from "WKRP in Cincinnati," along with gifts she received from Reynolds, including jewelry, clothing and even her wedding dress.
Anderson told ET that while her divorce from Reynolds was known at the time as one of the nastiest in Hollywood, both have moved on for the better.
"You just need a break after," said Anderson. "If it's a messy divorce, then you need a break and you go back and you go, 'Well there wasn't 12 terrible years. There was just that end.' So you go back and start thinking, 'Oh, I remember that! Oh, we laughed so hard! Oh, that was so fun!'"
Reynolds rejected a report that his Las Vegas auction was because he was in dire straits financially, according to an earlier Entertainment Tonight story.
"I want everyone to know that contrary to what all the news outlets are saying, I am not broke," he told ET on Tuesday. "I have been dealing with a business dispute for many years as well as a divorce settlement. I am simply selling some of my memorabilia that I have enjoyed for so many years but do not have use nor room for them anymore. Quite frankly, I am sick of so many pictures of myself in my own home."
