LeBron James revealed this week that it was a 67-day low-carb diet with no sugar or dairy that helped him slim down over the summer as the NBA legend gears up to re-join the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Though James has not yet fessed up to
how many pounds he's lost, he told CNN and Sports Illustrated that the lost weight will allow him to play at a faster tempo.
"I've lost a few pounds," he told CNN Wednesday. "I haven't been in this weight class. I'm in the 250ish range. I'm a lot lighter than what I've been playing at, but I feel good. The diet was strict — 67 days. I tell you what I couldn't have — no carbs, no sugar, no dairy."
What were the hardest things for James to give up? Pancakes, chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream.
"I had the cookie monster chasing me a few times in my dreams," James joked before getting serious.
"I'm quicker on the court and that's not such a good thing for the competition," he said.
James previewed his svelte physique on Instagram last month.
James' Cavaliers are expected to dominate this season with Kyrie Irving and the addition of All-Star Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
"Cleveland's roster includes Kyrie Irving, one of the fastest end-to-end players in the league, and Kevin Love, arguably the
best outlet passer in the game," SI.com noted. "And then there's James, who . . . can cover the length of the court in just nine strides (an average player requires 13) and he needs just 0.8 seconds to go from the three-point line to the basket."
