Madonna adoption rumors helped deflect attention from the pop star's bad press over her recent f-bombed speech about blowing up the White House, but then the Material Girl defused the reports about filing an application to adopt two or more children from Malawi.
Madonna said she had no plans on expanding her family at this time, despite visiting Malawi this week, said CNN.
“I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi and then heading home. The rumors of an adoption process are untrue."
Despite the denial, judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula said Madonna stood before the country’s high court on Wednesday and filed for the adoption of two Malawi children, according to USA Today.
Mvula said the court will make a decision on the matter within the next three weeks.
Madonna, a mother of four, adopted two of her children, 11-year-olds David Banda and Mercy James, from Malawi in 2006 and 2007, said People. Her other children are Lourdes Leon, 20, and Rocco Ritchie, 16.
She has been an advocate for orphans in Malawi for years, having developed the Raising Malawi charity in 2006.
“When I discovered that there were over a million children orphaned by AIDS, living in one of the poorest countries in Africa, I felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility to get involved and do what I could to help bring awareness to the situation,” Madonna said, per the charity’s website.
According to People, the charity will be breaking ground on Malawi’s first pediatric surgery and intensive care unit, the Mercy James Institute for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care.
