Mariah Carey Drops $100,000 on One-Way Plane Ticket to Cannes?

Did pop diva Mariah Carey really pay more than $100,000 for a one-way ticket on British Airlines so she could get to the Cannes Film Festival with complete privacy? That's anybody's guess, but celebrity sleuths have been digging for an answer.

Several media outlets this week jumped on a reported story in the British tabloid The Sun about Carey booking the entire cabin of a flight so she would not be "disturbed by fans," including WebProNews.com.

That story, though, linked back to a Yahoo News Philippines story written Wednesday, which says that the award-winning singer paid 70,000 British pounds, which is roughly $117,600. The Yahoo News Philippines story was reportedly produced by Cover Media, which provides celebrity news feeds.

That Cover Media story mentioned the same source as The Sun, but did not provide a link to the original story.

Yet another story, posted on the website Inquisitr.com Wednesday, did not clear up the mystery, quoting The Sun and listing the $70,000, yet using the Yahoo News Philippines story at its source saying that Carey actually paid 70,000 pounds.

The Sun, which has a paywall, did not list a Mariah Carey story on its online list of stories nor did the often quoted story appear from The Sun appear on any Internet searches Wednesday. In short, beware.

If she did buy the pricey ticket, she can afford it. Carey, who is married to "America's Got Talent" host and actor Nick Cannon, is one of the best-selling female artists ever, according to People magazine.

Guided by Sony Music's Tommy Mottola, who she later married, she had her first hit album in 1990 at 21. While her marriage would end with Mottola four years later, Carey continued to be a regular hit-maker, signing with Virgin Records for a reported $80 million in 2001.

In 2008, she beat Elvis Presley's record No. 1 singles record with her 18th chart topper off her album "E=MC2," according to People.com.

Carey has two children with Cannon, twins Monroe and Morocccan Scott Cannon. The family spent Easter together, with Carey releasing photos on social media of their kids dressed up in fluffy bunny ears, according to Us Weekly.
