Mariah Carey, who famously feuded with rapper Nicki Minaj last year when the two were judges on "American Idol," said Tuesday her time on the reality show was "like going to work every day in hell with Satan."

Carey, who is no longer affiliated with "Idol," talked about the constant bickering Tuesday on Hot 97, where she was promoting her new single, "The Art of Letting Go," which is the title track off her upcoming album. She and Minaj judged season 12 of Fox's competitive singing show along with country singer Keith Urban and "Idol" mainstay Randy Jackson.

"I was led to believe — I was the first person signed on [as a new judge]," Carey said. "Heaven forbid I look like I'm saying something negative, but honestly I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment. I was like, okay, Randy Jackson will be there, I've known him forever. This isn't a big deal. This will be nothing. But it wasn't that. It was like hell. It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan."

Carey then immediately tried to edit her comment, and also dished on her frustration with the "Idol" show's setup.

"Nah, I'm just playing. It didn't affect me that much — I was just disappointed," she said. "I loved the contestants. And some of them that were so good — and really good people, you could tell — it was disappointing when they would, for political reasons, not put people through. I'm like, 'I don't need to sit here and do this.' I would prefer to just put this person in the studio, record a record with them. Or tell another producer, 'Yo, you should produce this artist because they're beautiful, they can sing, they're talented.'"

The new "American Idol" judging panel features Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr. The season 13 premiere is scheduled for Jan. 15.
