Mark-Paul Gosselaar may have ruined every "Saved By the Bell" fan's dreams this week when he admitted that his signature blonde locks on constant display in the '90s teen series were not exactly natural.
"People go, 'Wow! You're not blonde anymore,'" the 40-year-old said during a recent appearance on "Live with Kelly & Michael." "When was I ever blonde? That's not real! . . . I can't believe I have hair now. I did that . . . [and] it wasn't natural."
Gosselaar made the media rounds this week to promote his TNT series, "Franklin & Bash," which also stars Breckin Meyer.

The two stopped by HuffPost Live Wednesday when the conversation again turned to "Saved By the Bell," specifically the controversy surrounding claims made in a tell-all book by Dustin Diamond, who played Screech.
"This guy's such a d***," Meyer said of Diamond. "I don't know Dustin at all, but like, everything I read… [Gosselaar] and I have talked endlessly about 'Saved By the Bell.' I grew up at the same time, I was acting — I used their sets one time when I did a pilot . . . the Dustin Diamond thing is just so silly. It's just so negative and it always bums me out."
Diamond's 2009 book, "Behind the Bell," notoriously alleged that the teen cast engaged in scandalous backstage behavior involving sex and drugs.
"It is negative," Gosselaar said of Diamond's book. "That I must say. Everything I've heard about his book is it is negative. I don't remember those things. My experience on the show was very positive."
A "Saved By the Bell"-themed Lifetime movie, "The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story," is in the works for a Sept. 1 premiere.
