Markeith Loyd, 41, who allegedly shot and killed a veteran police sergeant in Orlando, Florida, was captured Tuesday in Orlando after a nine-day manhunt.

Loyd was reportedly found armed with two handguns and a magazine with 100 rounds of ammunition before he was taken into custody Tuesday night, according to ABC News.

“In the hands of a violent criminal, this type of high capacity magazine could be extraordinarily dangerous, and result in the death of people including police officers,” said John Cohen, an ABC News contributor and former U.S. counterterrorism official, per ABC News.

The suspect allegedly responsible for the deaths of Master Sgt. Debra Clayton and a pregnant woman was leaving a home late Tuesday when he was caught by police.

SWAT officers surrounded the home as Loyd tried to escape from the back of the house before running back inside, The Associated Press reported.

Loyd’s face was said to have been bloody when he was taken into custody.

Loyd has been accused of killing Lt. Clayton outside a Wal-Mart store on Jan. 9 after she tried to arrest him. The pregnant woman Loyd killed was identified as his ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Sade Dixon.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said hundreds of officers worked around the clock to bring an end to this long manhunt.

“They’ve basically been living in their vehicles, using the bathroom in their vehicles, to try and do everything they could to bring justice for the Dixon family and for the Clayton family,” Mina said, according to the AP.

“I believe that our entire community is going to breathe a sigh of relief at this point,” said Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. “They will sleep better knowing tonight that…this maniac is off the streets.”

Mina said police plan to arrest anyone who assisted Loyd during the manhunt.

“Anyone who harbored, aided or abetted him in any way is going to be arrested, and we know from our investigation that people did assist him,” Mina said, according to the AP.
