Meat Loaf is in stable condition Friday after collapsing toward the end of his concert in Edmonton, Canada, on Thursday night.
The CBC News reported that Meat Loaf, 68, whose legal name is Michael Lee Aday, was performing at the Northern Jubilee Auditorium when he collapsed. Alberta Health Services said that he was transported to an undisclosed hospital but did not release any additional information.
Late Friday morning, the singer issued a statement on Facebook stating that his "vital signs are stable and normal — additional tests are being performed but he is responsive and recovering well."
One fan, Jamie Carriere, told CBC News that Aday was singing his hit "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" when he suddenly collapsed.
"You could hear the microphone just hit the ground," Carriere told CBC News. "I thought it was a joke, I didn't know what was going on because he was joking around throughout his set."
The BBC News wrote that Aday had previously collapsed on stage during a 2003 London concert and then again in Pittsburgh in 2011. The singer attributed the London incident to Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is characterized by an extra electrical pathway between your heart's upper chambers and lower chambers that causes a rapid heartbeat, but Aday told Rock's Backages he had successful surgery to correct it, noted the CBC News. The Pittsburgh collapse was blamed on an asthma attack, stated the BBC.
Aday had already canceled a concert Monday at Calgary's Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium due to illness,
according to his Facebook page. Another postponed show, scheduled for Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on June 11 was rescheduled for July 2, according to a Twitter post.
Aday's album "Bat Out of Hell" has sold more than 43 million copies worldwide, according to the BBC News, and continues to sell an estimated 200,000 copies annually some 40 years after its original release.
