The Dec. 3 Mega Millions numbers were 07-12-41-44-59, with a Gold Mega Ball of 03 and a Megaplier of 3. The drawing uses the new matrix for Mega Millions, according to lottery officials.
While Mega Millions has yet to top $300 million in 2013, it has happened four times this year for the Powerball. Still, the biggest jackpot in U.S. history was a $656 million Mega Millions prize that was split in 2012 among winners in Maryland, Kansas, and Illinois.
The estimated $291 million drawing has a $157 million cash option.
The Mega Millions lottery made changes to its game that began with the Oct. 22 drawing, in a move designed by lottery officials to produce more winners and larger jackpots. The drawings now consist of five white balls and one gold Mega Ball. Also, a new matrix incorporates an increase in white balls from 56 to 75, but fewer gold balls (15 instead of 46).
According to the Mega Millions official website, one lucky ticket in the multi-state lottery game matched five numbers, which earns a $1 million payout. That ticket was bought in Missouri.
